It was a sunny and breezy Saturday of a weekend of "Spring tides". I set off with two of my children to discover and capture a few photos of the Utah Beach area of Normandy to possibly add to my upcoming exhibition of photos (details to come very soon). The leaves aren't yet on the trees so I decided to concentrate on the coastline and see what I could photograph. When we left home (about an hour away from Utah Beach, in the Normandy countryside) it was breezy but boy, we weren't expecting the strength of the winds when we arrived. A couple of times the children decided to stay in the car (my eldest is 15 and responsible) as I forced myself against the winds to walk across the beach at low tide to capture the oyster beds and cockle pickers enjoying their afternoons, capturing a delicious treat for their evening meals as well as the pretty beach huts at Ravenoville.
There were lots of people making the most of the blustery day: Kite surfers in the sea and sand yachts and sand kites whizzing up and down the beach. We also visited a few of the many German WWII bunkers that are easily accessible from the beach. The one featured here is near the monument to the 2nd armoured division commanded by General Leclerc.
